Cute Go is dedicated to helping children who struggle with learning Go and neurodiverse individuals (including those on the autism spectrum, with ADHD, learning disabilities, etc.) master the fundamentals of Go.
We believe that Go is not just a competitive game, but an excellent way to develop focus, logical thinking, and patience. Everyone deserves the opportunity to learn Go.
Cute Go was born from a simple need: my 4-year-old son wanted to learn Go, but was struggling.
I'm a software developer and a mom. When my son showed interest in Go, I tried various Go apps and classes with him. But traditional Go teaching was too abstract for a 4-year-old — the full 19×19 board was overwhelming, concepts like "liberties" and "territory" were hard to grasp, and he couldn't sit through an entire game.
So I decided to build something myself. Starting with a tiny 5×5 board, I added expressive faces to the stones to bring them to life, displayed liberty counts as numbers to make abstract concepts visible, and created cat-and-mouse stories to make tactics fun. Finally, my son could enjoy learning Go.
I put the tool online hoping it could help more children like my son — whether they're young, have different learning styles, or are neurodiverse. Every child deserves a way to learn Go that works for them.
We understand that traditional Go teaching can be too abstract and complex for some learners. That's why Cute Go uses innovative teaching methods:
Begin with a 5×5 board to lower the learning curve
Stones have expressions, making games fun
Visual display of each stone's liberties
Step-by-step animated lessons
9 difficulty levels to progress through
Learn Go together with friends
